Work-release inmated wanted after leaving job
JACKSON - The search continued today for a work-release inmate who walked away from his job Monday.
Investigators said Frankie New, 40, left his job at Elam's Auto Service and Body Shop on Highway 10. He was last seen around 8 a.m. Monday.
This is the second time in a week that the East Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office has had the task of locating a trusty. Last Monday, Glen R. Carroll, 21, left a site near Amite. He was arrested a few days later.
New was doing time for simple burglary and was scheduled to be released in a year. Residents are concerned more escapes could become a trend.
"After the first incident, you would have thought there would have been something in place so this wouldn't happen again anywhere else," said Ileana Leteff.
The Louisiana Department of Corrections is planning to investigate the escapes.
