Work around sinkhole suspended during 'burp'
BAYOU CORNE - Emergency officials in Assumption Parish said work around the Bayou Corne sinkhole was suspended this afternoon when it started "burping."
The parish police jury reported on their blog that the activity, when hydrocarbons bubble up to the surface of the sinkhole, was still going on.
Earlier this week emergency officials said an eastern portion of land surrounding the sinkhole appeared to be at risk of sloughing off into it.
Emergency manager John Boudreaux said so far that had not happened with this burp event.
