People in the timber and logging industries expect a positive impact from the new plant scheduled for the Port of Greater Baton Rouge. The plant will produce wood pellets to be used in European power plants.
The owner of Hinson Logging company of Livingston Parish says he had to lay off employees within the last two years. Glen Hinson says loggers were hit hard when the housing market dried up. He says the demand for wood products dropped off almost immediately. Hinson says the wood pellet plant will give more options to his business and others like it.
Hinson says Louisiana timber growers will be able to meet the demands for the new facility thanks to proper land management.
