PARKS, La. - A woman and two kids have been found alive after going missing Sunday near the Atchafalaya Basin.

For more than 24-hours, a group of people, including sheriff's deputies, searched a wooded, rural area in St. Martin Parish after the group was reported missing. They vanished while they were riding ATVs.

Heather Gary, 25, Landon Sonnier, 4, and Taylin Toucheck, 4, got lost when an ATV got stuck. A man they were with, Clyde Colby Louviere, went to get help but was arrested by deputies when he called them about the situation and deputies discovered he had an outstanding traffic warrant.

"By law if you have an outstanding warrant, it's our duty to enact that warrant," deputy Ginny Higgins said. "You could wait but you know it's still there and if we know of it, it's our duty to act."

Search parties used a grid pattern to search for the lost group. Searchers also switch to a "silent search" by not using ATVs or other machinery, to make it easier to hear the missing people if they're calling for help for some time Monday evening.

Just before dark, the group was found about a mile from where they were last seen. A volunteer found them, picked them up and returned them to their families.
