Woman hit, killed crossing I-10 on foot
PRAIRIEVILLE - State Police said a Geismar woman died after she was hit by an 18-wheeler while crossing I-10 East on foot early Wednesday morning.
Troopers said April Tasker, 21, had stopped her vehicle and was standing on the shoulder of the highway near Highway 73 at 3 a.m. when she tried to cross the interstate.
State Police said a Texas man was driving a tractor-trailer through the area at the time and hit her.
Investigators said they don't suspect the truck driver was impaired, and he was not cited. A blood sample from Tasker will be sent to the State Crime Lab for toxicology tests.
