NEW ORLEANS - New Orleans police say a 44-year-old woman died when she was hit by a car at the Interstate 10 Louisa Street exit.
Police said a car was exiting the I-10 at Louisa Wednesday when the vehicle began to experience mechanical failure.
Investigators say the vehicle struck an unidentified woman who was standing on the side of the interstate, then hit a light pole and came to rest on an SUV that was stopped for the red light. Police say the woman was dead at the scene.
The 22-year-old driver and his two infant passengers were taken to the hospital with complaints of minor injuries. The driver of the SUV was not injured.
The accident is still under investigation and no charges have been filed.
