Woman dead, dozens injured after spooked horses take off during parade
Police say a 60-year-old Iowa woman has died of her injuries after two startled horses bolted during a Fourth of July parade and galloped through the streets pulling a wagon for several blocks.
Bellevue police say the woman died Sunday evening at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
Twenty-four people were injured when the horses took off during the parade in Bellevue.
Police say the horses ran out of control after one rubbed its head against the other, removing that horse's bridle.
They galloped for several blocks, running over children and adults who sat and stood along the streets.
