A woman is dead after a two-vehicle crash around 7:00a.m. this morning.

Louisiana State Police said 46-year-old Maria Peterson, St. Francisville, was driving a 2004 GMC Yukon west on LA 10 when she crossed the center line into the eastbound lane and struck a 1989 Oldsmobile Ciera head on. The driver of the Oldsmobile, 59-year-old Irma Minor, St. Francisville, was pronounced dead at the scene. Peterson sustained moderate injuries and was transported to Lane Memorial Hospital.

Authorities have charged Peterson with Driving Left of Center and Negligent Homicide. She will be booked into the West Feliciana Parish Sheriff’s Office after she is released from the hospital. Police do not suspect alcohol was a factor. Blood samples from both drivers have been submitted to the Louisiana State Police Crime Lab for chemical analysis.
