VIDALIA, La. - State police say a 25-year-old Vidalia woman tried to extort $350 from her parents after she called her mother and father and falsely claimed that she would be killed unless they wired the money to businesses.

On Thursday, state police said they arrested Tabitha Fisher on charges of extortion, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest. She was booked into the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center.

State police say they started investigating the purported kidnapping on Feb. 22 and figured out that Fisher was not in danger. State police say she was found in a hotel room in Westlake, La.

If convicted on all charges, state police say Fisher faces up to 16 years in prison and a $1,000 fine.
