BATON ROUGE - Neighbors are calling a woman a hero after she took action when she saw two men break into a house.

Neighbors said the woman, who did not want to be identified, heard glass break next-door, and called authorities. Just minutes later, officers arrived in force about 10:30 a.m. Wednesday on Fernbrook Avenue.

"She was a hero today for calling that in," said Chad Cothern. "I don't know how many home burglaries get nabbed like that. But she definitely was the factor in this one turning out right."

Two people were arrested after hiding in the attic of the house they are accused of burglarizing.

The woman said she was on edge throughout the negotiations.

Cothern said he waited out the ordeal with the homeowner, who watched as authorities filled the block.

"They were coming back and forth just letting Jeff know what's going on inside what was going on with the situation," he said. "[They kept] us updated and [let] us know what they'd have to do next if things didn't progress."

After a few hours, the suspects were apprehended. Deputies said they charged Tevin Gooden and Treyon Pugh with multiple offenses.
