BATON ROUGE - Firefighters said a Baton Rouge woman who woke up and found her home on fire broke through a glass door to get her child out of the burning house.
A Baton Rouge Fire Department spokesperson said they were called to the fire on 1055 Monterrey around 7 a.m. today. The fire destroyed the living room and hallway of the home.
The spokesperson said a smoke alarm woke the woman living there up, and she got her small child out of the house by breaking through a glass insert in a back door. She received several cuts in the process, and was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Red Cross was called out to help the home's residents.
