Woman arrested in boyfriend's fatal shooting
BATON ROUGE - Police say a Baton Rouge woman who claims she accidentally shot and killed her boyfriend during an argument has been arrested on a negligent homicide charge.
Baton Rouge police said in a statement that 25-year-old Larriana Hughes was arrested Sunday after her boyfriend, 27-year-old Christopher Payne, died at a hospital.
Hughes allegedly told investigators that Payne slapped her in the face in the driveway outside their home and then handed her a loaded handgun, telling her "this was her chance to get rid of him."
Police said Hughes claimed she accidentally fired the handgun and shot Payne in the chest when he slapped her again.
Hughes was jailed at East Baton Rouge Parish Prison after the shooting.
