BATON ROUGE - Police arrested a woman in Baton Rouge after they said she left a toddler she was caring for in a locked car for more than an hour this weekend.
Officers arrested Sunjay Barber, 27, in suspicion of child desertion and cruelty to a juvenile.
According to The Advocate, the two-year-old child was left in a car Sunday parked in a parking garage connected to a hotel and casino on River Road. Police said they were notified when a witness and hotel security saw the child screaming inside the car.
Police contacted the vehicle's owner, and soon Barber and the child's grandmother arrived to get her. Barber told police she and the grandmother were caring for the toddler and five other children, and the toddler must have been overlooked they unloaded the vehicle.
Police said the child asked for food and water after being let out of the vehicle, but was otherwise unharmed.
Barber was booked in the parish jail on a $25,000 bond.
