Woman almost threw away $10,000 lotto ticket
BATON ROUGE - A St. Helena Parish woman said she almost threw away her Powerball ticket for the March 23 drawing. Then she dug it back out of the trash to check the numbers, and discovered she'd won big.
Joyce Womack, 41, of Greensburg claimed her $10,000 prize at the Louisiana Lottery headquarters last week. She purchased her winning ticket at Kentwood Plaza on Avenue G in Kentwood.
She said she had no idea how much she'd won, just that she matched four of the five white balls as well as the red Powerball.
Womack received $7,000 after state and federal taxes were withheld. She said she plans to pay bills and put the rest of the money in the bank.
