Woman accused of stealing $274,000 from shooting victim
BATON ROUGE - Police have accused a Baton Rouge woman of stealing around $274,000 from her 72-year-old boyfriend who was later shot.
Sgt. Don Stone said Mary Ann Douglas, 52, was arrested today after investigators believe she forged checks to steal the money from her elderly boyfriend.
He said between Jan. '09 and Sept. '10, Douglas forged enough checks to wipe out two of the victim's bank accounts. A month after the money ran out, Stone said the victim was shot multiple times in West Baton Rouge and survived.
West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff's detectives later arrested a suspect, Shearman Wisham, in suspicion of attempted first-degree murder. Stone said BRPD detectives also received information Wisham is possibly an ex-husband or ex-boyfriend of Douglas, and they're investigating any possible connection she may have to the shooting.
Douglas was booked into the East Baton Rouge Parish jail in suspicion of felony theft and forgery.
