Woman, 73, dies in Opelousas house fire
OPELOUSAS - The State Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of a house fire in Opelousas where the body of a female victim was recovered.
Officials say St. Landry Parish District 3 firefighters were dispatched the home just before 4 a.m. Tuesday, where they found a single-story, wood-framed house engulfed in flames.
After firefighters made entry into the burning remnants of the home, investigators say the body of 73-year-old Mary Ann Sam was located in the northeast corner of the home.
Fire Marshal's Office says an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death.
