Witnesses talk about search for missing tubers on river
HOLDEN - Three people missing overnight after tubing on the Tickfaw River were found early Friday morning.
Two men, 27 and 21, and one woman, 18, were found around 7 a.m. after spending the night on a sandbar close to the Courtney Bridge area.
They were separated from a larger group Thursday while tubing down the Tickfaw River. The group reported them missing after waiting for several hours at the exit point from the river.
"It got dark on them. That's the only thing I could imagine. I never heard them. We were home," said Jim Bowles, who lives near the area where the group was found.
Bowles said he heard the search party.
"We heard the helicopters," he said.
Livingston Parish Sheriff's Office called in a search helicopter to find the three.
"Not a good place to be tubing especially around these bridges," said Justin Stafford, who grew up around the Tickfaw.
The three were checked out by paramedics and declined any further medical treatment.
