NEW ORLEANS- A former city police officer on trial for gunning down a man outside a strip mall after Hurricane Katrina is accused of telling a fellow NOPD officer that looters are "animals" who "deserved to be shot."
David Warren is charged with fatally shooting Henry Glover, 31, before other officers allegedly burned his body inside his car.
Another former officer, Alec Brown, testified Friday morning that he and Warren argued about looters while patrolling after the 2005 hurricane. Brown said he defended people taking food and claimed Warren said looters were "destroying the city."
Warren's lawyer argues his client thought Glover was reaching for a weapon.
Four other current or former officers are charged with trying to cover up Glover's death.
