With police escort, first cars cross bridge 6 hours after crash
BATON ROUGE - Traffic started moving on I-10 late Friday, six hours after a crash closed the interstate completely in one direction and slowed traffic in another.
Two 18-wheelers and a motorcycle collided in eastbound lanes just across the East Baton Rouge Parish line on the Mississippi River Bridge around 1:30 Friday afternoon. The wreck at the Nicholson/Highland Road exit closed all lanes of travel, forcing traffic of the interstate at LA 415 near Lobdell.
Police said one person died in the crash but have not released specific information.
The wreck also closed one lane of I-10 West. The rush hour closures forced traffic to come to a halt both eastbound in West Baton Rouge Parish and westbound through Baton Rouge.
