We're familiar with named tropical storms and hurricanes. To better identify winter storms, the Weather Channel has followed suit. This year, noteworthy storms will have a noteworthy name. In years past, blizzards were identified with a variety of names, by a variety of news sources. The Weather Channel embraced an idea to universally identify the storm, lessening confusion and future references. The A to Z list for this winter include Athena, described as the Greek goddess of wisdom, courage, mathematics and all things wonderful. The "B" storm is Brutus followed by Caesar, Drace, Euclid, Freyr, Gandolf, Helen, Iago and Jove. The Mongolian conqueror, Khan, made the list along with Magnu and Nemo. The "Q" storm will be designated as "Q" - the broadway express subway line in New York City.
