Winn inmate convicted of escape
An inmate at Winn Correctional Facility who escaped custody by overpowering a guard has been convicted by a Rapides Parish jury.
Courtney Paul Savoy was found guilty of simple escape.
Prosecutors say Savoy and fellow inmate Jacob Shaw tried to escape while being transported to a Pineville hospital.
They say Shaw overpowered the guard and fled. While one guard fired shots at Shaw as he fled, the other guard secured the van so Savoy was unable to leave.
Shaw was captured a short time later.
He pleaded guilty to escape and received a two-year sentence.
Savoy was found guilty of escape, but the conviction was overturned on a technical issue.
A sentencing date has not been set.
