Willis Knighton won't be part of LSU privatization
SHREVEPORT - Willis Knighton Health System in Shreveport won't be a part of the effort to privatize the LSU-run hospital in that city.
Last week, the LSU Board of Supervisors agreed to negotiate turning over the operations of university-run hospitals in Shreveport and Monroe to a nonprofit research foundation - the Biomedical Research Foundation.
Unlike other nonprofit corporations chosen to run university hospitals in other Louisiana cities, BRF does not currently operate a hospital.
Willis Knighton in a statement Monday said regulatory considerations would prevent it from partnering with BRF if the foundation should seek to work with another party in providing hospital care.
The statement said an anti-trust challenge would likely result from any arrangement adding LSU Medical Center to Willis Knighton's already large market share.
