Willfong wins Baton Rouge amateur golf title
BATON ROUGE - Facing sweltering heat, stiff competition, and his 4th round of golf in 2 days, Scott Willfong staved off all of the adverse elements to win the Baton Rouge amateur golf championship Sunday afternoon at Santa Maria golf course.
Willfong fired an even-par 72 to beat 7-time amateur champ Scott Haynie by one stroke.
19-year old Peyton McCulloch, who plays at Nicholls, finished in third with a 74 (+2).
The results go towards determining the state amateur champion at the end of the year.
