Wildfire contained near Albany
ALBANY - Firefighting crews contained a wildfire Thursday afternoon near Albany.
The fire is located south of Hwy. 190, near the end of Blount Road between Albany and Holden.
The Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry says the fire has been contained but damaged an estimated 80 acres of pine plantation.
The LDAF dispatched four bulldozer crews, a spotter plane and enforcement officers to the scene to assist local firefighters working to protect structures in the area.
Smoke from the fire could cause visibility problems for motorists on Interstate 12 and other highways as night falls.
