A man in Oregon was so inspired by a television show he changed his name from Smith to Awesome. Douglas Allen Smith, Jr. says he changed his name to Captain Awesome because of the character in the NBC show "Chuck"-Dr. Devon "Captain Awesome" Woodcomb. He says he found it funny that Woodcomb's father gave him that nickname because a "poor nickname builds good character." A judge questioned his seriousness when Smith went before him to change his name and made Smith swear it wasn't a change for fraudulent reasons. Awesome also says the judge allowed him to sign his name as a right arrow, a smiley face and a left arrow but his bank wounld't, since it could be forged too easily.
