KILLONA, La.- St. Charles Parish officials say a mosquito sample turned up with the dangerous West Nile virus.
The parish says its mosquito control teams are increasing spraying and taking other measures to knock down the mosquito population.
Because birds and mosquitoes throughout Louisiana carry the virus, the department urges people to protect themselves against mosquito bites by wearing long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and using mosquito repellent and keeping mosquitoes out of their homes and yards.
