West Feliciana toddler severely beaten
ST. FRANCISVILLE - In West Feliciana Parish authorities locked up a mother and her boyfriend after accusing them of beating her 2-year-old child.
Deputies charged Dana Vessel, 31, and Brandon Cobb, 26, with second degree cruelty to a juvenile. They also charged Cobb with domestic abuse battery.
Investigators said the child's grandmother heard about the beatings and took the boy to the hospital. Deputies said the baby had bruises and belt whelps all the way from the back of his head to his buttocks.
Sheriff Austin Daniel said this is the worst beating he's ever seen.
"I think about my grandkids and I think how outraged I would be if someone had done that to one of them," he said. "I just can't imagine anyone doing that to a child."
Investigators said Vessel told them Cobb beat the child because he wouldn't listen. News 2 spoke to Cobb's father, who said he believes his son is being framed.
"I don't think he's capable of that because Brandon has two kids of his own, 4 and 2 year old," he said. "I've never seen him whoop his kids, not once."
Vessel has no previous arrest record. The child is still recovering in the ICU.
