West Feliciana schools receive additional security
ST. FRANCISVILLE - The West Feliciana Parish Sheriff's Office has assigned an additional deputy to school security duties, giving each of the parish's four schools a full-time officer on campus.
During a briefing on security issues on Tuesday, Chief Sheriff's Deputy Randy Metz told school board members the fourth officer was stationed at Bains Lower Elementary School.
Sheriff Austin Daniel pays the school resource officers' salaries from his budget at no cost to the School Board.
Metz said the sheriff's office also plans to coordinate the movement of deputies on and off the campuses to have an officer on duty at all times.
In the aftermath of the Newtown, Conn., shooting, the sheriff's office is updating its emergency response plan.
