WEST FELICIANA PARISH- Preparations are being made in West Feliciana Parish for the swollen Mississippi River to flood homes and businesses.
Parish leaders are also getting ready to launch a major evacuation at the State Penitentiary at Angola.
"In my term as Sheriff, I don't ever remember them evacuating everybody like they are talking about now," Sheriff Austin Daniel said.
The evacuation of prisoners is slated to start Monday. Prisoners will be transferred to 12 different prisons across the state. More information on the evacuation will likely be released tomorrow.
Bridges and some roads are closed where water is high. DEMCO even turned off the electricity to Cat Island to prevent any problems.
At the Oyster Bar in St. Francisville, Bar Owner Brandon Hein said he's is preparing for the water to go over the roof.
"You can't fight mother nature," Hein said. "You just have to go with the punches."
Parish leaders could declare a state of emergency as early as tomorrow morning. That would allow resources to trickle in without having to cut through a lot of red tape.
