ST. FRANCISVILLE- The West Feliciana School Board has approved a second round of budget cuts that included closing Tunica Elementary School near Angola and sending its students to Bains Elementary and Bains Lower Elementary schools.
The board approved the closure Tuesday on a 4-2 vote for a savings of $590,303 in the face of a possible $1.8 million budget deficit next school year.
The Advocate reports David Cornette, whose district includes the Tunica attendance zone, voted against the measure.
In two other budget-reduction moves, members unanimously voted to reduce the number of calendar days worked by administrative employees by one day for a savings of $104,188 and eliminate the local supplement for national board certified teachers by $1,250 each for a savings of $22,527.
