West Baton Rouge council funds parish fire dept.
PORT ALLEN - The West Baton Rouge Parish Council has adopted a $1.4 million half-year budget for the newly consolidated parish-wide fire department.
Parish Financial Officer Phillip Bourgoyne says the budget, which takes effect July 1, sets aside $422,000 in salaries for 19 firefighters and $50,000 for overtime contingencies.
The council met Thursday to approve the budget.
Earlier this year, the council merged the six municipal fire departments into one parish-wide entity.
The next largest line item in the budget, $165,313, is the employer's contribution to the firefighters' retirement fund.
