'Well-dressed bandit' has extensive criminal background
PORT ALLEN - The so-called "well-dressed bandit" was booked into West Baton Rouge parish jail on Friday morning.
Michael West, 53, is accused of armed robbery and kidnapping at a gas station in Port Allen. He's also accused of another robbery in Baton Rouge that happened the very next day.
From burglary to simple robbery, law enforcement officials say West has a long criminal background. West has been arrested more than a dozen times dating back to the late 1970s.
Deputies say they received a tip with the suspect's name and address and followed up successfully. They say the woman who was kidnapped helped them identify West and Baton Rouge Police were able to make an arrest.
"She was willing to cooperate, she picked him out of a line up very quickly," said West Baton Rouge Detective Kenneth Young.
Bond for West is set for $500,000 dollars.
