Weekly unemployment insurance claims rise
BATON ROUGE- First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending Oct. 26 increased from the previous week's total.
The state labor department figures released Friday show the initial claims increased to 2,374 from the previous week's total of 2,311. For the comparable week a year earlier, there were 2,568 initial claims.
The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, increased to 2,414 from the previous week's total of 2,397.
Continued unemployment claims for the week ending Oct. 26 decreased to 22,705 compared to 22,949 the previous week.
The four-week moving average for such claims decreased to 22,927 from the previous week's average of 23,138.
