Weekly unemployment insurance claims decrease
BATON ROUGE - First-time claims for unemployment insurance in Louisiana for the week ending Aug. 22 decreased from the previous week's total.
The state labor department figures released Friday show the initial claims decreased to 2,414 from the previous week's total of 2,544. For the comparable week a year earlier, there were 2,268.
Construction had the largest decrease in initial claims, followed by both wholesale trade and professional scientific and technical services.
The four-week moving average, which is a less volatile measure of claims, decreased to 2,471 from the previous week's total of 2,495.
Continued unemployment claims claimed for the week ending Aug. 22 decreased to 25,650 compared to 26,429 the previous week.
The four-week moving average for such claims decreased to 26,667 from the previous week's average of 27,222.
