LEEVILLE - Along the Louisiana coast, the once-thriving fishing town of Leeville is sinking.

Leeville boasts some of the best fishing in the state inshore among the marshes, but coastal erosion has left nearly two-thirds of it underwater. One woman is trying to save what is left.

"Everyone is just sitting around and watching it erode," Janet Rhodus told News 2's Whitney Vann.

Three years ago, Rhodus started Launch Leevile, a non-profit dedicated to save the sinking town.

"No one else was doing it, and I couldn't stand to see it any longer," she explains. "So I'm going to try and do what I can."

Janet reached out to Lt. Gov. Jay Dardenne, who agreed to do what he could to help save it.

"We named Leeville a Cultural District," Dardenne says. "There's grant money to help that no one went after until Janet did."
