BATON ROUGE - Drivers who frequent Essen Lane will need to consider taking another route later this month as railroad construction will close the road for a weekend.
DOTD said Essen Lane will be closed at the railroad crossing south of I-10 starting Friday, July 18 at 9 p.m. until Monday, July 21 at 5 a.m.
The weekend closure will allow crews from the Kansas City Southern Railway to reconstruct the Essen Lane railroad crossing, according to transportation officials.
Baton Rouge drivers south of the closure should take Perkins Road to Bluebonnet Blvd. to get around the construction. I-10 eastbound drivers should exit at Acadian Thruway then travel east on Perkins Road to get to Essen Lane, and I-10 westbound drivers should take the Bluebonnet Blvd. exit, travel south to Perkins Road and then proceed west to Essen Lane.
WBRZ.com will have updates when the road closures begin and traffic updates throughout the construction.
