WBRZ poll: Undecided votes could carry annexation decision today
BATON ROUGE - Some council members are changing their minds when it comes to the annexation of the Mall of Louisiana and Baton Rouge General.
"I'm asking the city to stand down," councilman Buddy Amoroso said.
Amoroso has stood strong against the annexation and believes at Wednesday's meeting, the council should defer an annexation vote for 30 days.
But, two other councilmen who supported Amoroso a week ago are now on the fence. After first telling WBRZ News 2 they were against annexation, members Chandler Loupe and Joel Boe' said Tuesday, they are undecided about how to vote.
The pair's undecided vote join council members Trae Welch, Scott Wilson, Donna Collins-Lewis and Ryan Heck.
The group supporting the annexation has stayed the same: Chauna Banks-Daniel, C. Denise Marcelle, Tara Wicker and John Delgado.
Councilwoman Ronnie Edwards could not be reached.
If the city votes on the measure Wednesday night, the undecided votes could sway the decision.
Whether the issue is tabled, it must be discussed at either Wednesday's meeting, another regular meeting in two weeks or a special meeting since a parish ordinance requires annexation proposals to have a public hearing within thirty days of the filing date.
The council asked for an Attorney General's opinion on if talking about the annexation is appropriate since supporters of St. George are still collecting signatures to get the issue to voters.
