WBRZ is teaming up with The Cinderella Project of Baton Rouge for The WBRZ and Cinderella Project 2010 Prom Dress Drop-Off. The Cinderella Project is a volunteer organization that fosters empowerment and individual beauty by providing free prom dresses to high school juniors and seniors who cannot otherwise afford them. Currently, the project is in need of dress donations that will eventually be given to students in the Capitol Area and throughout the state.
Together with WBRZ, the Cinderella Project is hosting a weeklong Dress Drop-Off event at all branches of the YMCA of the Capital Area between Saturday, January 16 and Sunday, January 24, 2010. Dress donations can be made during regular YMCA branch hours and must be in very good condition, on hangers and dry-cleaned. Since the project started in 2008, over 1,000 girls have received free prom dresses thanks to donations to the Cinderella Project.
The Cinderella Project 2010 Prom Dress Giveaway is scheduled for Saturday April 10th from 9am to 5pm and Sunday, April 11th from 12pm to 5pm at the A.C. Lewis branch of the YMCA. The main criteria for student participation will be their eligibility for the federal free and reduced-price lunch program. Eligible students will have an opportunity to try on and select a dress in a fun, respectful environment. Local service organizations including the National Charity League and the Junior League of Baton Rouge will provide volunteer assistance to collect and organize dress donations for the 2010 Dress Giveaway.
