BATON ROUGE - News 2 viewers contacted WBRZ Channel 2 today, saying they received a scam email which claimed the TV station was giving away gift cards worth thousands of dollars.

The email is not true, and could lead to people's personal information being stolen.

The email asks people to respond to the website "rewards2012" and claim the reward, a $1,000 Visa gift card, which will be sent to them. The website asks the person to provide personal details they should not give out.

WBRZ-TV has not authorized any such contest, and advises anyone who receives such an email to delete it immediately.

If you feel your personal information has been compromised as a result of this email, contact your local authorities. You can also click here to get a list of steps you should take if you've been a victim of identity theft.
