BATON ROUGE - After all the teachers in West Baton Rouge Parish received pay raises, school support staff was left feeling unappreciated and even angry. They're hoping tomorrow they also will be granted a raise.
Some parents see school support staff as vital. And because of that, they said the support staff are due for a pay raise.
"They're the ones that keep schools going behind the scenes," said Kristi Marquette, whose daughter attends Head Start in West Baton Rouge Parish. "Cleaning up and making sure they have something to eat."
Superintendent David Corona agreed. He's asking the school board to consider an extra paycheck to all non-certified employees. Certified teachers were recently granted a separate pay raise.
"Our board tremendously recognizes how valuable and important our employees are," said Corona. "All of them."
Corona said a raise is important in keeping work morale high and showing they are appreciated for the work they contribute.
A simple majority is all that's needed by the ten board members to grant those support staff the pay raise.
