WBR parish-wide fire chief resigns
PORT ALLEN - The first parish-wide fire chief for West Baton Rouge Parish resigned less than a year after landing the position.
The parish president's office said Chief Charles Stephens resigned at the Board of Commissioners meeting Jan. 8. Stephens isn't leaving the department, but said he thinks he could be put to better use in a different position.
The parish chose last year to consolidate its six fire districts into one department in order to save money. Stephens, who was appointed in February, said the consolidation would take about five years to complete and wouldn't affect response times or fire stations' physical locations.
There's no word on who will take over the chief's position.
