WATCH: Matthew McConaughey helps hand out thousands of turkeys for Thanksgiving
LAWRENCEBURG, KY - Actor and Texas native Matthew McConaughey celebrated his 48th birthday this weekend. But instead of partying, he spent it by giving back to thousands of families.
Over the weekend announced he had partnered with the Wild Turkey bourbon distillery and Butterball to hand out 4,500 frozen turkeys to families in a Kentucky neighborhood. The effort was part of the "Wild Turkey Gives Back" project, an initiative designed to spread holiday cheer in the community.
"Thank you for being here and giving up your Saturday for this," Matthew said to other volunteers on Facebook. "We believe in our family that the more you're thankful for, the more you're going to create in your life to be thankful for."
McConaughey is best for his roles in films like How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days and Interstellar, as well as his staring role in the HBO's True Detective, which was filmed here in Louisiana.
