WATCH: after 8-month tour of duty, dad surprises kids at school
ZACHARY- Four siblings got the surprise of their lives at an assembly at Rollins Place Elementary Monday afternoon.
The school's principal and their mother orchestrated the homecoming of their father, a soldier, from Afghanistan. Daniel Von Kanel had been overseas for eight months.
His four kids, two girls and two boys, of various ages, were shocked to see him walk onto the stage at the assembly.
"It was tough, I was nervous; I was trying to keep all these emotions inside," the staff sergeant said after the big reveal. "This has been a tough one. I've missed them, I've missed them a lot."
Von Kanel said after not seeing his kids for so long, he began to miss everyday things of his family, even arguing.
"It's not the same, just not hearing their little feet... The arguing and yelling. I miss everything about them when I'm gone."
Watch the attached video for more of the homecoming.
