Washout causes road collapse in Baton Rouge
UPDATE 6:10 p.m. - The traffic center says Siegen Lane is back open after a temporary fix was put in place.
BATON ROUGE - A collapsed section of Siegen Lane is causing headaches for drivers in Baton Rouge this afternoon.
Pete Newkirk with the Department of Public Works said the road bed was washed out near Siegen's intersection with Perkins, so they closed the southbound lanes.
Newkirk said a contractor was working on a pipe in the area, and a catch basin collapsed because of the increase in runoff from the night's weather.
Traffic is being re-routed onto the north lanes while workers try to fill the hole.
