BREMERTON, Wash. - Police are looking for the killer who shot a Washington State Patrol trooper early Thursday during a traffic stop about 20 miles west of Seattle.

Patrol communications manager Monte Simpson says the trooper had stopped the vehicle near the town of Gorst before 1 a.m. on Highway 16. The trooper radioed in its license number.

When the trooper didn't check back with headquarters after several minutes, another officer was sent to the scene about 10 miles southwest of Bremerton and found the wounded trooper. He was rushed to a hospital where he died.
