Warning issued for jury service scam
LIVINGSTON - Court officials in Livingston Parish warned the public Tuesday of a jury service scam going on in the area.
Chief judges and clerks from the 21st Judicial District, Tangipahoa Parish, Livingston Parish and St. Helena Parish said someone was calling people living in their areas and attempting to get personal information.
Officials said the scammer claimed people they were calling had missed jury duty, and asked people to confirm their address and social security number.
The judge and clerks of court said no such calls were ever made, and that their court system does not use social security numbers for prospective jurors. They asked anyone who received such phone calls to report them to the appropriate sheriff's offices.
