BATON ROUGE - Winter is well on its way out, and strawberry farmers in south Louisiana couldn't be happier.
Eric Morrow said today the warm January weather has created the best beginning to a season he's seen in years.
"The berries are uncovered. We have sunshine and it's dry, and we can pick every day," he said.
Morrow said the good conditions here and terrible weather out in California, a big strawberry competitor, have already reaped big rewards for him: Walmart has bought up 60 percent of his crop. It's a welcome change from the last two years, which he said have been horrible for strawberry farmers.
But for today at least, things are looking sunny.
"I hate being bundled up out here picking berries," he said. "But I like the warm we have right now, it comfortable. It's berry season."
