PONCHATOULA- A Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff deputy shot a teenager, wanted for murder, in the upper body inside the murder victim's house Wednesday afternoon.

Ryan Pourciau, 18, was inside the home of April Vanderlinden. Vanderlinden's daughter, who deputies said was connected with Pourciau, saw him inside a bedroom Wednesday while the family was at the home collecting belongings.

"It's disturbing...that he was lying in wait," Sheriff Daniel Edwards said at a news conference Wednesday afternoon.

Pourciau is facing first-degree murder charges in connection with the death of April Vanderlinden, 39. Vanderlinden was shot at her home on Brookfield Drive Tuesday, about two miles from Ponchatoula High School where Pourciau and the victim's daughter attended school together.

Pourciau was taken to a hospital where he is expected to survive and faces additional charges for being inside the house.
