DENHAM SPRINGS - Residents have mixed emotions about the location of a possible new Walmart Neighborhood Market.

Walmart is looking to build on a piece of property at the corner of Vincent Road and Pete's Highway. That's right down the street from the family run store, Carter's Supermarket.

Carter's has six locations in the area. Some are already competing with Walmart stores.

Part owner of Carter's, Stan Cain, says their focus on customer service and community loyalty is what helps them survive next to the bigger markets.

"I think it's going to hurt the people here at Carter's, which I don't particularly like because they're great folks, it's been a pleasure having them right across the street from where I live. But overall I think it would be good for the area so I guess we'll just have to look and see," said Joe Flose.

The Livingston Parish Council approved moving forward with the possible new store during Thursday night's council meeting.
