Walker police to be fitted with body cameras
WALKER- Walker Police will be the first law enforcement agency in Livingston Parish to wear body cameras.
The Advocate reports the department recently purchased 18 cameras to record audio and video for officers. Walker Police Capt. John Sharp says he hopes all of his road officers are outfitted with the gear by next week after the department has a chance to train.
Mayor Rick Ramsey says the city purchased a new computer server to store the data from the cameras for at least three years.
The department made the announcement Wednesday, the same day police opened an investigation into a nonfatal shooting involving a Livingston Parish deputy in which law enforcement and family witnesses gave differing accounts of what happened.
